Job Summary: The BIDMC Nursing Mission is to build on a legacy of nursing excellence by caring with compassion, advancing the art & science of nursing, and advocating for the health of patients, families, and communities. The Informatics Nurse works collaboratively with Information Systems department to support development and implementation for Patient Care Services informatics initiatives. Training, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the department.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborates with the project manager and business owners to define the operational needs and to develop IT strategies and solutions in alignment with the strategic direction of both the Information Systems department and the organization as a whole.
  2. Plans, manages & oversees individual projects or project portfolios, utilizing recognized project management methodology including activities such as: Definition of project scope & objectives; Development & implementation of risk, communication, change management, & quality plans, as appropriate; Management & status reporting tools; Feasibility and cost benefit studies; Requirements definition.
  3. Ensures completion of all work assignments in accordance with an established project timeline. Provides project-specific direction and guidance to project team members to facilitate timely and quality results.
  4. Leads in the creation of end user training materials and operational policies and procedures related to day-to-day application functionality.
  5. Participates in the development and implementation of go live plans, including timeline, staffing coverage, and communication. Assists in staffing go live activities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or health related field required.
  2. License Registered Nurse required.
  3. 3-5 years related work experience required.
  4. Experience working in complex healthcare organizations.
  5. Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. .Strong clinical background.
  2. 2-5 years experience in clinical leadership position with project management responsibilities.
  3. Experience with development and or implementation of clinical application systems.

  2. Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
  3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
  4. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
