Join a growing leadership team for Infection Prevention & Control at Beth Israel Lahey Health! This position is one of four managers covering different geographic areas across BILH. This Manager, Infection Prevention oversees Infection Prevention & Control operations and personnel at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and New England Baptist Hospital and reports to the Director, Infection Prevention. Travel to these hospitals will be required as well as to the Beth Israel Lahey Health System Center in Charlestown, MA. Hybrid / Remote work opportunities are available.Reporting directly to the Executive Director or Director, Infection Prevention, the IP Manager has direct responsibility for supervision of IP Supervisors (where they exist), IPs and all other non-physician staff and oversight of daily operations of the infection prevention department within multiple BILH facilities. The IP Manager’s oversight areas will include routine surveillance, data collection, personnel management, and other daily functions of the department, either directly or via the IP Supervisor. The IP Manager will work closely with the IP Director and Executive Director to plan, implement, and evaluate the facilities’ infection prevention programs, and to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. IP Managers will serve as the first point of escalation for facility IPs without IP supervisors. The IP Manager will lead multidisciplinary infection prevention initiatives, participate in facility and system-wide committees, and serve as a content expert in infection prevention for multiple facilities, as needed. Those in the IP Manager role will complete ongoing professional development in the field through self-study, mentorship and sponsored training activities, while also providing mentorship to other IPs.

Job Responsibilities:
1) The IP Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of the local infection prevention program and all non-physician staff members, when no IP Supervisor is present. The IP Manager is responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action, and annual performance reviews, either directly or via the IP Supervisor. Direct reports: 2-6.
2) Provides leadership and guidance in the development of control measures or interventions related to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Act as a content expert for local IPs with questions related to HAI surveillance. (essential)
3) Develops and mentors IPs in professional development and fosters effective working relationships.
4) Works at the local level as an IP consultant at high level meetings to assist with strategic planning and functions as a subject matter expert for complex situations with complicated and/or immunocompromised patients
5) Assists in design and implementation of system-level IP strategy under direction of IP Director, IP Executive Director, and Chief Infection Prevention Officer
6) Provides support to local IPs who are leading investigations into potential patient and staff exposures to relevant infectious diseases and provide leadership in outbreak investigations in collaboration with the Medical Director(s) and Chief Infection Prevention Officer. Provide guidance to IP staff on additional required actions. (essential)
7) Ensures NHSN surveillance, data abstraction, and submission meet CDC definitions and all internal and external deadlines. Review data at each site and among sites looking for trends and assist with local plans to reduce and prevent HAIs.
8) Responsible for the participation and/or delegation of IP representatives to participate in facility-wide and system-wide committees, as assigned.
9) Demonstrates breadth and depth of knowledge of regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary infection control contact for surveyors from local and state public health departments, The Joint Commission (TJC), and other regulatory bodies. Demonstrates an understanding of a broader infection control picture across the system, locally, and nationally. (essential).
10) Provides leadership and guidance for local IPs and Supervisor IP(s) on complex infection control matters. (essential).
11) Appreciates cultural differences between organizations and demonstrates flexibility in implementation. (essential)
12) Ensures appropriate coverage of infection prevention activities at assigned BILH facilities as necessary and determined by BILH IPC leadership. May supervise IPs from other sites to assist with vacancy coverage and/or fulfill parts of the local IP in the setting of vacancies. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Infection Prevention, Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred
2. Licensed Registered Nurse Preferred.
3. Board Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required and must be maintained.
4. At least 7 years of work experience in infection prevention & control required. Previously leadership and management experience required
5. Professional licensure in related field (RN, MT, etc.) must be maintained as active, if applicable
6. Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite applications and other web-based applications
7. Experience in use of electronic health record, particularly Epic including infection prevention module, preferred
8. Detail oriented, critical thinker, effective communicator with analytical abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
