This position provides administrative supervision by leading, planning, and implementing projects and staff.  The Supervisor of Pathology Support has broad organizational and professional knowledge and therefore guides and facilitates problem solving, acts as a resource for others, and is accountable for the development and workflow of administrative operations.

Job Description:

Participates in planning and implementation of departmental and divisional goals, programs, objectives, and personnel. Collaborates with other management, physicians, and employees, to determine best practices, best method of achieving productive and positive outcomes for patients, employees and all internal and external clients. Provides supervisory support to mentor, coach and guide as needed. Schedules vacation and process payroll. Maintains established systems for providing administrative services by leading and coordinating the activities of others. The administrative services may be in the areas of transcription, records management, computer applications, and general administrative duties. Extensive interaction with all levels of hospital staff to problem solve and coordinate day-to-day issues. Drives quality improvement initiatives, continuously looking for ways to improve performance and service. Interacts daily with physician and administrative management staff to provide key information and reports to meet goals. Provides timely and effective communication including feedback to management, physicians, and employees.

Staffing (40%):

Supervisory -

· Manage team of 13

· Recruitment, Interview, Hire, Orient, Train, Promotions, Terminations

· Coach, Direct, Hold Meetings and Performance Reviews

· Back up - During absences cover other administrative positions Monitor overall administrative operations, supervising staff productivity to ensure all tasks and deadline are met with efficiency and high quality

· Promote positive culture and maintain morale

Day to-Day operations (30%):

Tasks (Traffic Control)-

· Legal requests

· Billing and charge review (>14 days & autopsy; consultation issues)

· Resolve difficult customer service issues

· Resource for entire staff including faculty, residents, and managers (resolve a myriad of issues and requests)

· Maintain office equipment and service contracts

· Manage and coordinate activities with BILH and BID Affiliates (resolve issues)

· Coordinate with external departments and outside vendors (Clinicians, Legal, Distribution, Receiving, IS, LIS, Telecomm, Accounts Payable, Mailroom, Human Resources, Fast mailing, Fedex, UPS, Fujitsu, Access storage)

· Correct pathology reports (including coordination with ordering providers) and billing issues

· Payroll

· Media Lab

· Mail issues

· Miscellaneous

Department / Leadership activities (30%)

· Serve as resource (multiple facets in the department, especially AP workflow)

· Spearhead department and organization initiatives

· Serve on committees; meetings with leadership staff

· Submit FAR and Capital requests

· Follow up on requests (quotes, supplies, and equipment)

· Coordinate operations and activities with Affiliates

Required Qualifications: 
Bachelor's degree required.
4-6 years related work experience and a minimum of 2 years supervisory/management experience required 
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
