Job Summary: Manage campus space planning and space programming for the Medical Center. Compile and evaluate requests and make recommendations on efficient space utilization in the Medical Center. Investigate and recommend the purchase and transition to a new space management/ asset management software. Supervise and provide project guidance to the Sr. Space Planner and Space Planning Associates. During larger capital projects, build consensus and facilitate decisions from the medical center staff and leadership to provide programming and planning information to consultants in a timely manner to keep projects on schedule.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Meet with Medical Center staff and leadership including Senior Vice Presidents, Divisional Chiefs, and Departmental Chiefs to determine spatial needs. Conduct planning workshops to develop and/or provide efficient schemes to fulfill needs in a space deficient environment.
  2. Evaluate requests from Medical Center staff, plan projects with input from requesting parties to maximize operational efficiency of their space and coordinate the execution/construction of those planned projects. Manage vendors, engineering consultants, contractors and work with various Medical Center support departments to coordinate project completion.
  3. Oversee the space management database system. Coordinate, analyze and report on space needs and utilization. Perform in-depth analysis, test fit scenarios, and develop policies and metrics for space. Conduct studies, research, and compile data to prepare comprehensive facilities use and feasibility data to be used for campus planning, capital improvement, and long-range planning.
  4. Supervise Space Planning Associates to help support Medical Center staff regarding space utilization and planning. Perform audits of information submitted by departments throughout the Medical Center to ensure all spatial data is current and is reflected in the Facilities department electronic drawings and spatial database.
  5. Oversee the documentation and coordination of architectural and space allocation/use changes made by Facilities department Project Managers once projects or relocations have been completed. Review space requests against space standards for proper and efficient space utilization.
  6. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has authority to undertake or recommend the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: None
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Planning preferred.
  2. 8-10 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
  3. Demonstrative ability to achieve results collaboratively.
  4. Experience in organizational planning.
  5. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in hospital planning.

  3. Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
  4. Written Communications: Ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing to all levels of staff, management and external customers across functional areas.
  5. Oral Communications: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
  7. Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
