NONINVASIVE CARDIOLOGY TECHNICIANJob Description:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Exemplifies the values of New England Baptist Hospital and the ROSE philosophy.
2. Complies with all New England Baptist Hospital policies and the Code of Excellence.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
3. Department Specific Responsibilities:
Operates and maintains HP Pagewriter, Tracemaster EKG system,
Quinton Stress and treadmill.
- a. Schedules and performs EKG’s for inpatients and outpatients.
- b. Schedules and performs Cardiac Exercise Tolerance Tests (To include Thallium and Persantine testing). Is able to describe testing procedures to patients prior to procedure. Responsible for having IV inserted in correct site and having IV set up ready for RN.
- c. Schedules and performs 24 hour Holter Monitoring Studies. Notifies courier for pickup.
- d. Performs and records blood pressures precisely.
- e. Maintains a basic understanding of Cardiographic testing according to the requirements of the position.
- f. Maintains supplies and records for the Non-Invasive Department:
- Assists in ordering supplies and maintaining par levels for non-invasive functions i.e.: test paper, electrodes, forms, etc.
- Responsible for logging in all studies performed and entering all appropriate charges into computer.
- Verifies and corrects data in TraceMaster EKG system. Matches EKG orders with tracings.
- Performs or oversees downloading of EKG’s to Tracemaster EKG system on a daily basis.
- Obtains dictated transcription reports from the AS400 computer system. Files all reports and records in an accurate and timely manner.
- •Retrieves previous EKG tracings where applicable, to be available for comparison during EKG interpretations by the cardiologist in a timely manner.
4. General Departmental Responsibilities:
a. Responsible for responding to STAT and Code situations.
b. Responsible for carrying code pager and responding to Stat and Code calls.
c. Maintains a general knowledge of the CPR cart equipment and its required uses.
d. Assists in checking CPR cart lock daily. Inspects and replaces outdated and/or missing medications and/or supplies monthly and/or after use.

- k. Demonstrates effective communication skills by conveying necessary information in an accurate and timely manner.
- l. Responds in a calm and effective manner in stressful or emergency situations.
- m. Attends and participates in staff meetings, or accepts responsibility to read minutes.
- n. Attends all mandatory education programs.
- o. Maintains a presentable appearance in accordance with the dress code policy and wears name tag and lab coat at all times.
- p. Refers conflicts and procedural questions to Department Manager or designee.
- q. Performs a variety of additional duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.
6. Judgment and decision-making
- a. Demonstrates ability to recognize poor quality testing results.
- b. Notifies physician and/or nurse when abnormal texting results are obtained
- c. Recognizes and resolves problems, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and uses alternative methods where available.
- d. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess situations, consider alternative and choose the appropriate course of action, where written and/or verbal instruction are not available.
7. Infection Control
- a. Maintains current knowledge of Infection Control procedures with regard to patients and equipment as outlined in Infection Control Policies and procedures
- b. Observes Infection Control practices when interacting with patients (i.e., Standard and special precautions).
- c. Consistently demonstrates as concern for cleanliness of work area to prevent cross-contamination.
8. Performance of general duties as required
- a. Provides in service and annual EKG certification to other hospital personnel as required.
- b. Assists with scheduling or diagnostic studies as required.
- c. Maintains and complies unit statistics as requested
- d. Seeks out learning experiences applicable to skill level and position description that will foster professional growth.
- e. Demonstrates dependability and flexibility in meeting unit needs
- f. Maintains clean organized testing areas and keeps room stocked
- g. Prioritizes and recognizes work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency to expedite patient care during the assigned shift.
9. Plans time away from work appropriately.
- a. Arrives and leaves at designed times
- b. Uses unplanned earned time appropriately. (Based on full time hours. Standards are pro-rated for part-time employees based on agreed hours.)
EDUCATION
Required: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Preferred :Bachelor’s Degree
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required:
- R.D.C.S. ,, Issuing authority A.R>D.M.S.
- Basic Life Support Certification
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5–8 years
REQUIRED SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years
