We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Perinatal Ultrasonographer Trainee. This is a per diem position designed to provide comprehensive training over a 12-week period, with the possibility of extension based on progress and managerial approval. The trainee will gain hands-on experience in performing high-quality perinatal ultrasounds under the supervision of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in performing perinatal ultrasounds, including detailed fetal anatomy scans, Nuchal translucency, Doppler studies, and biophysical profiles, while maintaining ARDMS and AIUM imaging standards.
• Learn to operate ultrasound equipment and reporting software proficiently.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
• Communicate effectively with patients, providing clear explanations and compassionate care.
• Collaborate with the medical team to ensure high standards of patient care.
• Participate in training sessions and educational activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
• Completion of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• Previous clinical experience in an obstetrics or perinatal setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Familiarity with ultrasound equipment and imaging software.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and providing compassionate care
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move patients as necessary.
• Prolonged periods of standing and moving during procedures.
• Manual dexterity to operate ultrasound equipment.
Schedule:
• This is a per diem position with variable hours based on departmental needs. Availability to work flexible hours. No nights or weekends required.

Job Functions

As part of the Maternal Fetal Medicine team and under the direct supervision of the MFM Manager or licensed Perinatal Technologist, the Perinatal Ultrasonographer Trainee:

  • Greets, escorts, assesses, educates and identifies patients making the patients feel welcomed and comfortable. Training will include how to perform safety and quality checks, including verifying exam orders and confirming patient identification.
  • Training to include completing ultrasound examinations following established exam protocols established by The Maternal Fetal Medicine unit.
  • Training involving entering examinations correctly, ensuring accurate and informative documentation and appropriate ultrasound documentation, entered into ViewPoint.
  • Training EPR system. Appropriate HLD of Ultrasound transducers is necessary for patient protection and infection control. Employees are trained initially and then an annual refresher is completed.
  • Training to include routine clerical duties; reviews daily clinic schedules; monitors urgent add ons and inpatient orders. Reviews patient charts and maternal serum screening results, tracks inventory supplies, keeps work area clean, empties laundry, and stocks rooms at the end of each shift.
  • Training involving departmental procedures for maintaining records and logs to monitor quality and safety in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Training involving equipment cleaning and maintaining a safe work environment presenting the best possible impression of facilities and fostering our culture of safety.
  • Training to become familiar with supply and equipment issues to ensure optimum operations, equipment quality and long-term equipment maintenance and life.
  • Transports and provides ambulatory assistance to patients as necessary.
  •  Training in the education process and how to inform patients and family members throughout the patients' experience.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures. Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork and the clinical training experience.
  • Training to help minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols. Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

Experience:

Required: Prior work experience as a licensed Ultrasonographer in OBGYN

Required: For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS: Required:

  • ARDMS registered in OBGYN Sonography
  • Basic Life Support Certification Required

OTHER JOB COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge: Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Age based Competencies:
    Trainees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 .
    Physical Nature of the Job:
    Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Trainee is physically active in all elements of the job.
