Assists all members of the patients care team including: radiation therapists, radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, socialworkers, administration and others. Works within scope of practice and maintains direct supervision by a registered radiation therapist.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Greets patients and assists with patient flow to various treatment areas, floors, clinics or departments. (essential)
2. Assists radiation therapist in preparing the simulator and treatment rooms for patient care to include ensuring patient specific procedure preparations, and transferring patients to and from treatment tables. Sets up treatment room prior to procedure and clean room after procedure. (essential)
3. Identifies proper immobilization devices for patient in the patient's electronic medical record. (essential)
4. Escort patients to and from the treatment room. Assists patient to and from the treatment couch using correct and safe lifting techniques. Help maintain patient comfort while maintaining proper patient positioning. (essential)
5. Participates in ¿Time Out¿ procedures to identify correct patient per department policy. (essential)
6. Relay patient problems and complaints to radiation therapist, nurse or physician. (essential)
7. Collaborate with radiation therapists to schedule patient treatment times based on patient's preference. (essential)
8. Monitors inventory, stocks supplies, including linen and empties linen hampers throughout the day. Maintains rooms and facility cleanliness. (essential)
9. Participates in departmental patient safety initiatives to ensure patient safety and infection control practices at all times. Complies with established department policies, procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. (essential)
10.Performs related responsibilities as required. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or GED required.
2. Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
3. 1-3 years related work experience required in patient care, healthcare environment, or customer service.
4.Must be enrolled in an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
5. Ability to work flexible hours including potential shift or location on short notice.
6. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
1. Work needs to occur at an average pace with intermittent breaks. Requires an average amount of attention to maintain quality of work.
2. Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.
3. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions
4. Several times a week: Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals, Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc).
5. Health Care Status: HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes).
Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department
Sensory Requirements: Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.
Physical Requirements: Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.
This job requires frequent walking, standing, bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Keyboard use, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.
