Reporting directly to the regional Manager, IP, the IP Supervisor has direct responsibility for supervision of all non-physician staff and oversight of daily operations of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) department within one or more BILH facilities. The supervisor's oversight areas will include routine surveillance, data collection, personnel management, and other daily functions of the department. The IP Supervisor will work closely with the IP Manager and the Medical Director(s) to plan, implement, and evaluate the facility’s infection prevention program, and to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the IP supervisor will serve as a content expert in multiple content areas of infection prevention for internal staff and external partners, such as local and state departments of public health. The IP supervisor will lead multidisciplinary infection prevention initiatives, participate in facility and system-wide committees, and serve as an institution-wide content expert in infection prevention. Those in the IP Supervisor position will complete ongoing professional development in the field through self-study, mentorship and sponsored training activities.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:
1) In consultation with the regional Manager, IP and in partnership with the Medical Director(s), the IP Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of the local infection prevention program and performs direct supervision of all non-physician staff members. In consultation with the regional Manager, IP, the IP supervisor is responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action, and annual performance reviews. Direct reports: 5-15.
2) Provides leadership and guidance in the development of control measures or interventions related to prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Act as a content expert for IPs with questions related to HAI surveillance. (essential)
3) In collaboration with Regional Manager, IP and the Medical Director(s), develops and mentors IPs in professional development, and fosters effective working relationships.
4) Leads investigations into potential patient and staff exposures to relevant infectious diseases and provides leadership in outbreak investigations in collaboration with the Medical Director(s). Provide guidance and supervision to IP staff on additional required actions. (essential)
5) Ensures NHSN surveillance, data abstraction, and submission meets CDC definitions and all internal and external deadlines. Provides updates to Regional Manager and Medical Director(s), as necessary.
6) Responsible for the participation and/or delegation of IP representatives to participate in facility-wide committees, as necessary.
7) Demonstrates breadth and depth of knowledge of regulatory requirements. Serves as the primary infection control contact for surveyors from local and state public health departments, The Joint Commission (TJC), and other regulatory bodies. Demonstrates an understanding of a broader infection control picture across the system, locally, and nationally. (essential).
8) Provides expert consultation for both clinical and environmental infection prevention issues and recurring problems. Provides leadership and guidance for other IPs on complex infection control matters. (essential).
9) Demonstrates good judgment and maintains strict adherence to BILH confidentiality guidelines and maintains compliance with HIPAA. (essential)
10) Support coverage of infection prevention activities at other BILH facilities as necessary and determined by BILH infection prevention leadership. (essential)

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Infection Prevention, Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred
2. Licensed Registered Nurse Preferred.
3. Board Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required and must be maintained
4. At least 5 years of work experience in infection prevention and control required. Previous leadership and personnel management experience preferred.
5. Experience within a large tertiary care center and/or academic center preferred
6. Professional licensure in related field (RN, MT, etc.) must be maintained as active, if applicable
7. Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite applications and other web-based applications
8. Experience in use of electronic health record, particularly Epic including infection prevention module, preferred
9. Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills required for effective supervision and collaboration; ability to identify resources and time and resources needed to complete specific goals and effectively communicate with a broad audience required.
