Job Summary: Performs a wide variety of duties to provide clinical assistance to patients and staff in the Breast Imaging Section. Coordinates flow of information between the Breast Ultrasound, Breast Care Department, Pathology and the Operative Room Departments. Serves as the central communication source on which all persons rely in the delivery of patient care. Handles and images breast specimens. Communicates next steps to OR Surgeon and or Pathologist at the direction of the radiologist.
Important Details:
• Sign on bonuses are paid out in three payments. You will receive your first payment (one third of the total amount) within the first 30 days of employment and is subject to applicable taxes. You will receive the second payment at six (6) months and the third payment (final third of total amount) one year following your start date and all payments subject to applicable taxes.
• Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week. Please note, per diem employees are not eligible for sign on bonuses.
• Current and Former BILH candidates - restrictions apply. BIDMC Internal employees or employees within the BILH system are not eligible for the bonus or if you have been employed by a BILH entity within the last 12 months.
• Please note, sign on bonuses are subject to change based on the organization’s hiring needs and will be determined by Talent Acquisition on an ongoing basis. BILH/BIDMC Talent Acquisition reserves the right to change sign on bonus eligible jobs and amounts at any time.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:- Identifies sources of required information and compiles required data and resources to ensure successful completion of activities. Manages unread reports. Accesses and assesses relevant computer reports.
- Responsible for upload of outside network digital imaging and associated reports. Investigates and follows through to completion images that are unable to be located. Answers telephone, relaying messages when necessary in a professional, efficient manner
- Manages the procurement of orders for scheduled procedure patients.
- Monitors and responds in timely manner to "SPARK" the section instant messaging communication, Accurately Relies next steps to technical staff and or patients in accordance with radiologist direction
- Responsible for follow through of specimen image back to the operating room and communication to pathology department.
- Picks up patients from ambulatory surgery and transports back to Operating Room or to Nuclear Medicine. As needed will transport patient back to in-patient floor.
- Monitor's patients in "changed" sub wait area's, Assists technologist with room turnover and completion of patient history sheet.
- Collaborates with other staff to respond to changes in operational flow that affect patient care by adapting own pace and schedule. Assists professional and technical staff as needed.
- Carries a beeper and responds when paged by the Operative Room about an incoming specimen needing radiograph.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
- 0-1 years related work experience required.
- New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification. Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
- Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision.
- Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
- Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
- Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
