Job Description:
The Lahey Diabetes Advanced Practice (AP) Fellowship is an intensive 12-month postgraduate fellowship program dedicated to enhancing the development of early-career advanced practice providers (APPs), both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, or those who are new to endocrinology and diabetes. The fellowship mission is to provide a solid foundation in diabetes management that will help the APP develop the clinical decision-making skills required to care for our diverse and increasingly complex patients. The program provides accelerated clinical learning opportunities intended to help novice APPs develop a wide range of knowledge and skills that will help them grow into competent and well-rounded diabetes providers. Applicants much have a strong desire to pursue a career in diabetes management/endocrinology, as well as participate in a rigorous fellowship program.
Under the direction of preceptors, diabetes fellows will gain the knowledge and skills to assess and manage different forms of diabetes by completing medical histories and physical examinations, interpreting laboratory tests, formulating diagnoses, implementing treatment plans, seeking consultations, prescribing medications, utilizing technology, and counseling patients and their caregivers. We focus on collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to provide exceptional care.
Fellows will rotate through our main campus in Burlington and satellite facility in Peabody.
By the completion of the 12-month program, fellows are expected to:
- Manage patients with complex diabetes in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings.
- Provide highly coordinated, cost-effective care to diverse patient populations to improve outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families as well as their colleagues and other members of the healthcare team.
Shifts:

- Fellows receive a maximum of 4 scheduled vacation weeks (total of 160 hours). Fellows may take vacation after the initial 12 weeks of the fellowship program.
- Fellows will earn 2 personal days that can be used during the last 30 weeks of fellowship.
- Fellows are required to attend a diabetes clinical conference (virtual or in person) approved by the faculty during the course of the fellowship. Reimbursement is offered.
- Fellows are expected to attend all didactic classes and educational experiences.
Educational/Licensure Requirements:
- Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. New grad PAs are welcome to apply.
- NCCPA Board Certification prior to starting fellowship and maintenance of appropriate CEs for licensure.
- Nurse Practitioners: Graduate of Master's Program in Nursing. At least 1 year of experience as an NP or new grad NP’s with at least 1 year of prior RN work experience.

Application requirements:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Personal statement (500 words) focusing on your interest in diabetes and your future career intentions
- 2 Letters of Recommendation from either professors, preceptors, or supervisors/managers
While we anticipate offering employment opportunities to graduates of the program, completing the fellowship does not guarantee a full-time position. Fellows will be well-prepared for a successful career in diabetes management in an endocrinology, primary care, or inpatient setting within Beth Israel Lahey Health or elsewhere.
The incumbent will lead in the support of a strong culture of respect and belonging and work on the development and implementation of efforts that prioritize collaboration and career satisfaction.
