Position would start May/June of 2026.
Job Description:
The Audiology Externship at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center provides a fourth-year audiology student opportunity to participate in diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology care to the adult population. The Extern will work alongside clinical audiologists, all of whom have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). This is a full-time position, starting in June 2026.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
-Performs clinical audiologic services, including diagnostic assessment of hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation options.
-Reviews results and recommendations to patients regarding diagnostic tests and rehabilitative options.
-Provides written educational material and reviews with patient/family.
Interprets and documents results of diagnostic assessments into clinical reports.
-Completes documentation and billing for clinical procedures in a timely manner.
-Works collaboratively with Otolaryngology nursing staff to provide excellent patient care.
-Reviews abnormal test results with the referring physician.
-Makesappropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals.
-Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
During the clinical externship, applicants are expected to develop and demonstrateproficiency in advanced skills, including:
Amplification
Implantable technology (cochlear implants and bone conduction technology)
Electrophysiology Assessment (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP), Neurodiagnostic Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) and Electrocochleography (ECochg))
Vestibular Assessment
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: 4th year Audiology Graduate Student
Licensure, Certification, Registration: N/A
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
1. Excellent verbal skills.
2. Excellent patient centric skills
3. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
