As a member of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Institute (CERI) team, the Clinical Data Analyst (CDA) will support general research activities by working with various research colleagues, datasets and tools. This position utilizes skills in data extraction, analysis and data manipulation within large-scale datasets to support medical research. The Analyst must be able to understand the healthcare/research scenario and analyze, interpret and communicate findings to all levels of the research team. The Analyst will administratively report to CERI Research Program Manager, projects oversight will be provided by team Data Scientist. The Analyst will work in collaboration with research teams at Lahey and other collaborating institutions. It is important to note that this position will require flexible and, occasionally, extended, work hours during some project phases.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
The Analyst will be responsible for projects as prioritized by the Chief Scientific Officer and leadership of CERI including:
Support research resources by;- Creating data extracts using the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and Lahey Health Observational Database Environment (LHODE) by applying various criteria and providing descriptive statistics.
- Create and/or maintain data marts for the various departments and stakeholders, such data is used to support a specific research activity.
- Integrating registry data with EHR data to create/supplement research data marts.
- Exploring and describing research datasets to answer specific data-related questions by stakeholders.
- Developing end-user documentation and any related training resources for data mart owners.
- Maintaining an inventory of research data assets for future use by the Lahey research community.
- Support for the Lahey Health Observational Database Environment (LHODE) as the primary research data repository managed by CERI.
- Data originating from the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) System into the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) as a standard format to foster research collaboration.
- Working with various ontology systems such as ICD, CPT, LOINC to identify data elements to build reusable value sets.
- Continued expansion of complex clinical concept definitions to derive data elements.
- Working in conjunction with other Clinical Data Analysts and staff as needed to complete project requirements and meet research goals, timelines and budgets.
Functions:
- Collaborate with data mart owner, research coordinators, statisticians, investigators and other researchers to implement a data extraction plan Develop, write, execute, test, debug, implement, modify and support new or existing data extraction plans in support of research projects.
- Write documentation as required to track data mart development.
- Manage, reformat, enter, edit, merge and maintain data in preparation for analysis.
- Conduct data validation and audit checks.
- Query reports for problematic data (erroneous or illogical data values); send to research team lead for resolution.
- Transfer data among different formats for integration and analysis purposes.
- Analyze data using SQL or other programming language or tools to generate descriptive statistics and assist in development of statistical models and graphics.
- Review statistical output for consistency and quality.
- Prepare tables and quality graphics of statistical results for inclusion in interim and final reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscript submissions and grant applications.
- Communicate extraction results to data mart owner, research lead and team.

- Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
- Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A Master’s Degree or higher in a healthcare related field such as Medical Informatics, Health Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Nursing, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related fields.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: None
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of healthcare data with the ability to understand medical concepts in view of a clinical dataset.
- Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) is a must.
- Knowledge of healthcare research will be very beneficial.
- Effective leadership, oral communication, writing, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Additionally a basic knowledge in proposal development and grant writing is beneficial.
- Any knowledge of programing using Python, R, Stata, SPSS, SAS is good to have but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in Health Informatics, data analysis, research analysis support experience in a clinical/healthcare environment
