Reporting to the SVP, Chief Nursing Officer, this position is key to the Jean Cunningham Department of Nursing operations. It is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining systems and data that support day-to-day nursing operations, real time decision making, and coordination of resources for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center. Responsibilities include working with senior leadership to identify the appropriate and effective utilization of personnel, financial and material resources. The Director oversees the Nursing Operations Center, payroll, scheduling and financial functions. The Director builds the annual budget and works with nurse leaders to monitor nursing performance against the budget, maintaining controls and recommending corrective actions. The Director functions as an expert resource to senior leadership and a liaison to other relevant departments, including Finance, Human Resources, and Information Systems.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
Designs and implements management information systems and develops and manages staff to support management information systems to maintain data integrity. Oversees and directs the analysis of data to facilitate decision making, resource allocation (capital, finance, staffing, bed, etc.) & planning decisions for nursing and for the hospital in general. Collaborates with other hospital managers in the review and maintenance of Lahey licensed bed profile and participates in long term facility planning. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws re: bed usage and licensing and works in collaboration with legal and network development re: regulatory issues. Provides project management leadership in the domains of payroll, HR, and finance, for projects within nursing and in partnership with other Lahey departments and with BILH. Manages the operating and capital budget process. Works with Finance to build the nursing budget, identifying organizational and department objectives and projects the anticipated workload generated from these and the resources required to support the workload. Uses external trend information to compare to internal measurements. Monitors budget and develops variance reports. Provides summary information and makes recommendations to guide real time senior management decisions. Organizes communication and collaboration with Hospital Compensation and HR to ensure consistent effective payroll and personnel practices for nursing. Provides consultation and education to hospital management on nursing workload and resource requirements. Develops and oversees the nursing HR and position control process. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
Qualifications:
- Degree in finance, business administration or related field required; MBA preferred.
- 5 years related work experience required and a minimum of 1 year of supervisory/management experience required.
- Previous experience working in healthcare setting is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a large organization (greater than 5000 employees) with responsibility for direct oversight of budgets, project management and managing teams is preferred.

- Oral Communications: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas.
- Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to Lahey and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.
- Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.
- Presentations: Ability to present data and recommendations to large audiences and accurately respond to inquiries.
