Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is now offering a $15,000 signing bonus for our Surgical Technologist position.
Important Details:
• Signing Bonuses are paid out in three payments. You will receive your first payment (one third of the total amount) upon completion of the first 30 days of employment. You will receive the second payment upon completion of six (6) months and the third payment (final of the total amount) owe upon completion of one year following your start date. The bonus payments will be paid on the next regular pay day following the date on which you become eligible for the bonus. All payments are subject to applicable taxes.
To be eligible:
• Current and former BILH candidates - restrictions apply. Employees within the BILH system are not eligible for the bonus or if you have been employed by a BILH entity within the last 12-months. Employee must be in good standing to receive the bonus at the time of payment.
• Signing Bonus is determined on a full-time status of 40 hours. Hours less than 40 hours will be prorated. Per Diem roles are not eligible.
• If you leave Lahey Hospital & Medical Center before your first anniversary you will pay back the signing bonus.
• Please note, signing bonuses are subject to change based on the organizations hiring needs and will be determined by Talent Acquisition on an ongoing basis. BILH/LHMC Talent Acquisition reserves the right to change signing bonus eligible jobs and amounts at any time.

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Associate Chief of Nursing and the Nurse Manager the Specialty Surgical Technologist, Level II functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports directly to the ANM. The SST II is responsible and accountable for optimizing available resources while independently and collaboratively assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of the surgical patient.
The Specialty Surgical Technologist, Level II is responsible for providing leadership, clinical education and clinical expertise to other members of the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Specialty Surgical Technologist, Level II is a member of the surgical team responsible for providing care and resources to the surgical patient. This job requires working in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on patient progression goals, quality initiatives and achieving the highest level of patient satisfaction.
They will work with staff and students to ensure the room is properly prepared for each surgical procedure. The Specialty Surgical Technologist Level 2 will participate in presenting educational in-services for the staff and participate on hospital wide or unit-based committees as needed. They will work closely with surgeons, and vendors for specialty needs for each procedure.
The Specialty Surgical Technologist, Level 2 will work with the Service Leader providing resources in the area of clinical expertise updating preferences, pick lists, and kit list.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1. Collaborates with other disciplines to facilitate the delivery of patient care.
2. Ensures appropriate equipment and instrumentation are available for scheduled surgeries on day of surgery.
3. Works with the leadership team to create teams of excellence.
4. Collaborate with Assistant Nurse Manager to optimize daily staffing assignments.
5. Assures that important processes and activities are identified, measured, assessed and systematically evaluates and monitors the processes. Is familiar with OR performance improvement activities and measurement data.
6. Demonstrates effective teamwork skills by sharing information and encouraging input from other members of the team.
7. Provides ANM/NM with input for staff annual performance appraisals.
8. Delegates work appropriately and provide direction and guidance to support personnel.
9. Participates in nursing research activities.
10. Maintains confidentiality and patient rights in interactions with the patient/family and other health care workers.
11. Evaluates the effectiveness of education and performance of clinical skills of team members.
12. Functions as expert resource for service specific equipment and instrumentation
13. Collaborates with Clinical Educator to identify opportunities for staff development.
14. In collaboration with the Clinical Educator will assure all orientation and annual competencies are completed and documented.
15. Provide education and training to all team members within the service on new technology and equipment.
16. Incorporates evidence-based practice into patient care activities.
17. Communicates effectively with Nurse Manager, Service Leader, and Surgeons in preparation for upcoming surgical procedures.
18. Acts as clinical expert in orientation of new personnel and students under the direction of the Nurse Educator / Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager.
19. Collaborates with the Service Leader in providing input for updating preference cards as determined by changes, requests of surgeons, new approaches, techniques, etc.
20. Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies in operating rooms and storerooms.
21. Provide input and assist in the reduction of cost within the Operating Room
22. Order all required implants for specialty services
23. Review of billing for implants to reconcile inventory
24. Assists and collaborates with the surgical team to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
25. Anticipates needs of surgical team during the procedure and provides them with proper instruments, equipment, supplies to meet these needs.
26. Assists in the care, cleaning and maintenance of all specialty instruments, equipment and supplies according to established guidelines, policies and procedures.
27. Collaborates with the Circulating nurse to insure the accuracy of all sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to established policies and procedures.
28. Responsible for application of the principles of aspesis to maintain integrity of the sterile field.
29. Participates in the quality improvement/quality assurance process at the unit level.
30. Parallel Processing in collaboration with circulating nurse/team staff to achieve and maintain turnover goals and on-time starts.
31. Actively participates in performing the essential components of the WHO Checklist, hand hygiene, and other department safety and quality initiatives.
32. Handles specimens according to policy and procedure
33. Incorporates Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities
34. Complies with all Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Policies
35. Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center
36. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients
37. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment
38. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards
39. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
40. Successfully completes Mandatory Education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification required within one month of new hire.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
Experience: Greater than 5 years of Operating Room Surgical Technologist experience
