The Registered Nurse in the Level 2 nursery setting provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to women, newborns, and families in a high-acuity perinatal or neonatal setting. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, critical thinking, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective and safe patient outcomes in neonatal nursing practice. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for neonates requiring Level 2 care. The RN demonstrates increasing autonomy, leadership, and a commitment to professional development in alignment with Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN’s) standards of care.Job Description:
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and family-centered care to patients in accordance with AWHONN’sStandards for Professional Nursing Practice
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for neonates with varying levels of acuity
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition using advanced clinical skills and evidence-based protocols.
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor to novice nurses and nursing students.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and data collection to enhance patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Adhere to staffing and acuity guidelines as outlined in AWHONN’sStaffing Standards for Perinatal Units
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice.
- Certifications: BLS and NRP required; STABLE and/or RNC-NIC preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a Level 2 or higher NICU or perinatal unit.
- Skills: Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
