UNIT COORD/PATIENT CARE ASST

Job Description:

UNIT COORD/PATIENT CARE ASST_MAH

  • This person will act as a resource for patient and family members upon entry to L&D.
  • Assists with communication by answering call lights and relaying the information to the appropriate staff in a timely manner
  • Will communicate with Prenatal offices and Providers as information is relayed from office settings to L&D
  • Acts as a liaison between the patients and staff in hospital and the Prenatal clinics MAH serves
  • Arrives/admits patients and infants into the EMAR and discharges them from system as necessary

This person is responsible for answering phone calls to L&D and relaying messages to the appropriate clinician. Also, in reverse, is responsible to bring necessary staff to the L&D Unit via use of paging system and telephone in emergent situations .

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent (GED) required. Previous clerical experience (preferably in a healthcare setting). Medical terminology is preferred. Ability to read and write at level 8, as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.   An ability to set appropriate priorities and organize workflow. An ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail during frequent interruptions. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to interface with support and professional staff and patients.
