OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST, PER DIEM

Job Description:

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Evaluates referred patients accurately using appropriate tests, measurements, and history.
  • Recommends treatment plans in conjunction with the patient and/or family and physician which is based on the evaluation results and includes the frequency and duration of treatment, long- and short-term goals, and expected functional outcomes.
  • Administers appropriate therapeutic techniques accurately and continuously monitors the patient's response to treatment, modifying the program as needed.
  • Assists in orientation, training, and supervision of aides, students, and volunteers assigned to participate in patient care or departmental projects.
  • Documents patient care accurately and in a timely way in the medical record and as needed to facilitate continued care or billing.
  • Confers with the patient and/or family, referring physician, staff, vendors, or other facilities to facilitate or coordinate care or obtain patient equipment.
  • Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and skills through participation in continuing education programs, professional organizations, and/or review of professional literature.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • A Bachelor's degree or entry level Master's degree in occupational therapy. Current licensure to practice occupational therapy from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as an occupational therapist
  • Good oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to independently manage patient care load.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal hospital and clinic environment. Standing and walking, stooping and bending 60% or more of the time. Grasping, fine hand manipulation, and repetitive hand movements more than 60% of the time for outpatient treatment.
Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids and infectious diseases. Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/materials requiring isolation.
