Join our Emergency Department care team as an ED Patient Care Associate in a recently renovated care space!

Patients will receive care that meets their individual needs in all patient settings.

Day shift rotating weekend availability required

Typically two 8 hour shifts and two 12 hour shifts

Typicall shifts are 7:00 AM- 3:00 PM or 7:00 AM- 7:00 PM

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to): 
1. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to

patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

a. Observe and reports patient’s status and needs

b. Answer call lights and attends/reports patient needs

c. Obtains weights, vital signs, intake/output and reports results

d. Performs phlebotomy, EKG and glucometry. Collects and labels

specimens according to policy.

e. Assists patient with ADLs

f. Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges

g. Completes patient treatments as directed

h. Rounding every 2 hours on patients with documentation

2. Maintains current knowledge/certification.

a. Attends hospital-sponsored training programs as required

b. Maintains BLS certification

c. Attends annual Safety education

d. Performs glucometer competency (yearly)

3. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide non-direct patient

care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel.

a. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment

b. Operates all equipment and performs all procedures/care in safe

manner.

c. Demonstrates proper body mechanics

d. Cleans and stocks supplies and equipment as directed

4. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

5. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

a. Functions as unit coordinator if trained

b. Provides one to one or close observation of patients as needed

6. Responds to staffing needs by cross-training and floating to other units as needed.

7. Participates with the orientation of new staff.

Minimum Qualifications: 
1.    High school graduate or equivalent.  
2.    Ability to read and write at level 8, as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.  
3.    Good oral communication skills to ensure the accurate transfer of information, and strong interpersonal skills to facilitate courteous interaction with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff members. 

Physical Requirements & Environment: 
1.    Normal hospital environment.
2.    Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and other toxic agents.
3.    Ability to walk and stand for up to 90% of work time, and to push and pull heavy work objects (including patients), and lift 50 lbs.
4.    Fine motor control for limited periods to perform patient treatments.
