Under the direction of the Senior Radiation Therapist, this position is responsible for delivering radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, performing daily maintenance and quality assurance checks on the equipment, and maintaining the inventory of departmental supplies.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
1. Provide patient education to maximize patient compliance with his/her plan of care and provide family education when needed.
2. Monitor patient’s physical and physiological response to treatment and refer the patient for appropriate management when indicated.
3. Demonstrates respect for patient confidentiality, modesty, and privacy.
4. Administers radiation therapy treatment accurately and safely; monitor and report reactions, therapeutic responses, and inconsistencies
5. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development from infant through the geriatric stage of life span.
6. Assesses patient relative data pertinent to age-specific needs and provides care as described in the department policy and procedure manual.
7. Positions, immobilizes, and aligns patients according to treatment plan and effectively evaluates and solves set-up problems.
8. Maintains logs and daily treatment records, including accurate documentation of all treatment procedures.
9. Possesses knowledge of all scheduling, treatment, and billing procedures involving the Record and Verify System; can troubleshoot and consult with the appropriate personnel to resolve discrepancies.
10. Understands the function of equipment, accessories, treatment methods, and protocols and applies knowledge appropriately.
11. Works with the Sr. Radiation Therapist to resolve clinical problems.
12. Utilizes a quality assurance program to encompass all aspects of treatment delivery and quality patient care.
13. Instructs and orients new Radiation Therapists, students, and other staff members unfamiliar with the department and/or specific procedures.
14. Adapts contingency plans in response to a variable that influences workload and/or schedule.
15. Demonstrates cooperation and teamwork and is responsive to all members.
16. Attends and participates in scheduled Departmental and Therapist Staff Meetings.
17. Maintains and can provide annual documentation of the required amount of Continuing Education Credits needed for licensure.
18. Is an active member of a professional organization; participates in professional activities by attending meetings, serving on committees or task forces, and writing and/or presenting scientific papers.
19. Participates in the clinical instruction and evaluation of the Radiation Therapy Technology students.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must be a graduate of a CAHEA accredited educational program or equivalent.
2. Must be registry eligible or hold active certification by the ARRT and have valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.
3. Supervisory/Management Responsibility: Supervises Radiation Therapist Clinical
4. Assistant(s) and students assigned to the area.
Physical Requirements & Environment:
1. Outpatient clinical environment with some exposure to infectious diseases and cleaning solutions.
2. Adherence to safety procedures minimizes the risk of injury.
3. Normal office environment for administrative duties.
