The Director, Philanthropy Institutional and Transformational Giving will support BILH’s mission by developing sophisticated, tailored and compelling donor proposals, stewardship reports, and impactful communications that align with the philanthropic priorities of high-net-worth individuals and key institutional donors. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer, able to translate complex, multidisciplinary organizational goals into clear, compelling narratives that inspire transformational gifts. The Director will develop comprehensive, customized presentations and proposals for potential transformational gift donors, often collaborating with development officers, senior leadership, and program managers to ensure alignment with donor interests and organizational priorities. The Director collaborates with internal teams to gather necessary data, financial information, and program details, and synthesizes this into clear, donor-focused narratives. The Director also supports frontline colleagues develop grant applications to corporations and foundations as part of the organization’s broader fundraising efforts.Job Description:
1. With guidance from physicians, researchers, administrative leadership and Development staff, research,write and edit customized concept papers, presentations, proposals, and stewardship reports that are tailored to the needs,interests and personalities of institutional and transformational gift donors. 2. Draft talking points for the President/CEO, Senior Leadership, Chair of the Board, and other institutionalor volunteer leaders as appropriate for prospect meetings and events. Write and edit specialcorrespondence for the President/CEO, Chair of the Board, Chief Philanthropy Officer, and other institutionalor volunteer leaders. (essential)
3. Write donor relations correspondence as needed on behalf of BIDMC leadership, including stewardshipreports and acknowledgements. Work as a part of a larger Institutional and Transformational Gifts team to strategize and execute the promotion andadvancement of institutional development priorities. (essential)
4. Write and edit descriptions of various funding opportunities across BILH (essential)
5. Develops and sustains excellent working relationships at all levels of the organization. (essential)
Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred
Experience:
5-8 years related work experience required in preferably in the area of medical and/or science writing.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Solid volunteer management experience; demonstrated ability to engage and successfully utilize volunteers in achieving fund raising goals.
Exceptional writing skills and ability to translate complex medical information for a lay audience.
Tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to confidential data and personal information.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Willingness to adjust work schedule as needed to
meet the demands of the position.
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or
Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and
maintain databases.Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area.
Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing to all levels of staff, management and external customers across functional areas.
Oral Communications: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.
