The pharmacist plays an integral role as part of the EHR application team as an EHR Pharmacy Application Builder supporting all aspects ofthe closed-loop medication lifecycle including, but not limited to provider medication order entry, pharmacist validation and dispensing,
nursing medication administration, and medication safety surveillance. The pharmacist application builder works with clinical end-users,
operational pharmacy informatics, and the application build teams to maintain medication knowledge bases, build medication-related clinical
decision support, and ensure our medication drug classes are accurately supporting our safety, quality, and medication-dependent reporting
initiatives. In addition to the responsibilities of the application analyst the pharmacist will be utilizing clinical pharmacist expertise integrated
with clinician workflow-expertise and EHR-configuration domain knowledge to facilitate appropriate clinical decision support workflow design,
EHR build and testing as well as identification of potential patient safety related issues. In depth knowledge of closed-loop medication
lifecycle safety, medication order set design, medication dosing, drug interactions and medication safety industry standards is critical in the
success of this role. The EHR Pharmacy Application Builder works closely with physician, nursing, and pharmacy operation workgroups
leveraging integrated clinical and technical expertise to understand business requirements and develop solutions to a broad range of
challenges such as venous thromboembolism prophylaxis medication panel design, cost-effective drug substitution strategies, antimicrobial
stewardship, C. Diff decision support, complex chemotherapy regimen configuration and medication shortages. This position also supports
other applications with regards to medication safety and decision support compliance, build and usage to ensure alignment with clinical and
operational needs and/or limitations.
Job Description:
1. Builds, configures, and validates pharmacy-specific clinical tools, medications, and other relevant pharmacy configurations. (essential)
2. Creates functional specification documents to create content within the EHR application and is primarily responsible for validating this content with the business owner. (essential)
3. Leads integrated clinical workgroups to move forward with completed deliverables, measurable outcomes and process metrics. Provides guidance, assistance, training and feedback as needed in conjunction with the Team Lead.ss (essential)
4. Manages pharmacy projects whose scope is primarily clinically focused. Provide clinical pharmacy input and support to EHR application teams to support safe system configuration (essential)
5. Achieves and maintains required certifications (if applicable) of respective EHR application and stay current with new application functionality and enhancements. (essential)
6. Acts as a liaison between IT, customers and/or vendors. Participates in meetings with all operational areas using the software application. (essential)
7. Prepares and maintains documentation, including analysis, design, programming, standard procedures and user guides. (essential)
8. Interprets clinical care workflows and translate clinical needs into business and technology system applications. Provide oversight of Clinical Decision Support collaboration with established leaders in Pharmacy, Nursing Informatics, Clinicians, as well as CHIO and Medical Directors of Informatics (essential)
9. Review and analysis of monthly medication content load. (essential)
10. Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department and/or customer. Provides on call / after hours support as required. (essential)
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in BS/BA in Pharmacy - PharmD degree required; must maintain PharmD licensure. required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. 3-5 years related work experience required.
3. Vendor required certification in good standing (or proficiency if vendor accepts) for applications/modules employee is assigned to support. If not currently certified (or proficient), employee will have 6 months from their Date of Hire or Date of Transfer into a position that requires certification (proficiency) to obtain such certification.
4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Social/Environmental Requirements:
1. Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.
2. Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.
