The Senior Paralegal will provide advanced legal support to the Office of General Counsel and will provide leadership in supporting all legal operational functions across the Beth Israel Lahey Health system. The Senior Paralegal will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Legal Operations in partnership with the attorneys in the Office of General Counsel. This role requires significant experience as a paralegal in a fast-paced environment and strong knowledge of legal procedures and terminology, and the ability to manage complex and high-volume workloads independently.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Organizes and prepares responses to subpoenas, summonses and other requests for information or testimony by the organization and/or its employees and agents.  

2.  Interacts with both internal and external parties related to all aspects of subpoena and discovery requests. Consults with in-house attorneys, as necessary.

3.  Coordinates and manages document production and e-discovery processes.

4.  Serves as a second-in-command for Direct of Legal Operations, including serving as an administrative liaison for the Office of General Counsel.

5.  Responsible for outside counsel invoicing for the Office of General Counsel, ensuring compliance and conformity with Department billing guidelines.

6.   Communicates with outside counsel and colleagues within the organization; managing case timelines and providing status reports as requested.  

7. Updates the department’s case and document management system. Drafts and edits correspondence and other legal documents. 

9.     Conducts legal research as required.

10.   Incorporates BILH Values and Mission into daily activities.

11.  Complies with all Beth Israel Lahey Health’s policies.

12.   Performs all other legal administrative functions as required by the BILH Office of General Counsel consistent with the position and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies and five years of relevant work experience, preferably in a litigation law firm or corporate legal department. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:  Excellent organizational and time management skills; the ability to work independently and use independent judgment in performing the essential functions of the position; the ability to multitask; excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of Office 365.
