Provides a leadership role in the department, acting as a trainer, resource and mentor for Urgent Care Techs and staff. Fully versed in all areas of department operation, performs all tasks necessary for the smooth functioning of the department. Coordinates and expedites the flow of patients and providers.

Job Description:

  • Essential Responsibilities:
  • 1. Performs competently and safely in clinical tasks of EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, crutch walking, and patient activities of daily living. Reports information to Urgent Care nurse as needed.

    2. Orders supplies and equipment, restocks supplies to ensure availability at all times, and ensures that inventory is monitored for expiration dates. Maintains oxygen tanks, and fluid/blanket warmer.

    3. Serves as a role model/mentor, providing support, training and sharing knowledge with other Urgent Care Techs under the direction of the Urgent Care manager or their designee. Participates in evaluations of Urgent Care Tech staff with manager or their designee.

    4. Works with manager to improve cost effectiveness in the procurement, distribution and usage of supplies and equipment. Responsible for ensuring patients are properly charged for equipment, supplies and outside purchases.

    5. Works with manager for new equipment purchases and ensures that all equipment in the unit is adequately maintained. Arranges maintenance and repairs as necessary with either maintenance department or with vendors where there are prearranged service contracts. Assists in education and training regarding implementation of new equipment/products.

    6. Assists patients who have physical and psychological limitations with patient care functions which may include transferring from wheelchair to exam table, undressing and dressing patients and ensuring patient is safe until provider arrives.

    7. Performs various tests including visual acuity, oxygen saturation, and specimen collection. Communicates results to appropriate department personnel and documents interventions in the medical record.

    Required Qualifications:

    1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.

    2. License Basic Life Support required., and Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required., and Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.

    3. 3-5 years related work experience required.

    4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. EMT/Paramedic or Emergency Department experience.

    Competencies:

    2. Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.

    3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

    4. Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

    5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

    6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

    7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

    8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

    Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16- 30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.

    Physical Nature of the Job: Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.
