Beth Israel Milton is currently seeking a full-time Emergency Department Nurse.

POSITION FUNCTION:


In collaboration with the Director oversees daily operations, nursing care delivery, and staff management within the Emergency and Respiratory Therapy Departments. This role focuses on fostering a culture of excellence in patient care, quality outcomes, and employee engagement. The Manager collaborates with leadership and interdisciplinary teams to ensure operational efficiency, compliance with regulatory standards, and the achievement of organizational goals in quality, safety, growth, and financial performance.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


· Under the general supervision of the Director supports and supervises with-in the framework of the RN license, maintains the standards of practice and evaluates the nursing care rendered on an on going basis


· Actively involved with the Respiratory and Pulmonary Services Performance Improvement Program which includes, but is not limited to, peer review, case review, routine equipment safety inspections, on-going evaluation of forms and reporting mechanisms, on-going review and update of all policies and procedures and routine monitoring of the quality and appropriateness of patient care and satisfaction.



· Organizes and directs functions and activities on the unit. Interprets and implements established policies, procedures, regulations to personnel, patients, medical staff and the public. Utilizes personnel efficiently and assures cost-effective utilization of supplies and equipment.



· Develops a culture that prioritizes employee engagement and retention, aligning management practices with company values, sound management principles, and applicable laws


· In collaboration with the Director, assumes responsibility for overall personnel management within the unit. This includes interviewing, selecting, disciplining, scheduling, assigning, supervising, evaluating performance and any other appropriate personnel actions.


· Analyzes data and metrics to identify trends, develop action plans, and implement ongoing improvements to patient satisfaction and department performance.


· Oversees the rollout of tactical action plans, individual goals, and accountability measures to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.


· Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders ( EMS, fire, and other BILH hospitals) to communicate effectively, resolve issues, and plan new programs and initiatives.


· In collaboration with the ED leadership team, physician leadership and hospital leadership develops and/or maintains unit based Quality Improvement programs.


· Monitors and collaborates with professional development in developing all appropriate competencies and skills for staff based on evidence based practice.


· Coordinates, participates and evaluates the orientation of new staff members with the assistance of assigned preceptors.


· Participate as a member of hospital and system wide committees, in-services, and orientation programs as directed.


· Assists in administering highly specialized therapy with complex technological equipment and demonstrates a high degree of autonomy in performing immediate, accurate patient assessments and appropriate nursing interventions.







ADDITIONAL REQUIRED COMPONENTS:


· Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served.


· Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.


· May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor.


· The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. A summary list of tasks and procedures

· that may cause exposure to blood and body fluids is listed in the attached Physical Abilities Job Description. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required

· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN requires with MSN highly preferred).

· Current licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

· AHA BLS and ACLS required

· Comfort with MS office products (Word, Teams, Excel etc), effectively.

Preferred

· TNCC, ENPC preferred

· PALS required within 1 year of hire

· Previous nursing leadership experience preferred.

· At least 3 + years of acute ED nursing experience.
