Job Summary: Provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services to a diverse population of adults and children with hearing and balance disorders from a variety of referral sources.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:- Performs full diagnostic hearing evaluation for adult patients by utilizing the following: thorough case history intake; pure tone air and bone conduction, speech reception threshold and word recognition testing; iummitance measurements including tympanometry, acoustic reflex threshold testing and reflex decay; otoacoustic emissions as well as other special tests.
- Performs diagnostic/neurodiagnostic evoked potential evaluations including Auditory Brainstem Response testing, Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential testing, Electrocochleographyas well as Videonystagmography assessments. Demonstrates advanced test administration and interpretation skills as well as working knowledge of various disease processes affecting the hearing and balance systems.
- Interprets results of diagnostic evaluation and makes appropriate recommendations for follow-up care to include but not limited to: further audiologic assessment, medical intervention and/or rehabilitative measures. Communicates diagnostic findings to patients, family members, physicians and other sources in concise, tactful and language appropriate manner.
- Performs evaluations to assess hearing aid and/or assistive listening device candidacy and forms appropriate recommendations. Programs and fits these instruments and ensures appropriate fit and patient satisfaction through verification methods such as utilization of real-ear analysis.
- Troubleshoots hearing instruments and perform routine maintenance on all styles of hearing instruments; interprets electroacoustic analysis results of hearing aids.
- Doctoral degree in Au.D. in Audiology required.
- License Licensure Audiology Comm of MA preferred.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Advanced training in diagnostics, sound clinical judgement, the ability to work independently and to prioritize are essential, as all work assignments must be completed in a narrowly defined timeframe.
- Possess or be eligible for licensure in Audiology from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Expertise in diagnosis and remediation of hearing and balance disorders with proven skills in ABR, ECoG, VEMP, VNG and digital hearing aid fitting required; experienced with the latest digital hearing aid technology and skilled in the area of cochlear implants including ability to support rehabilitation process for implant patients.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
- Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
