The Hyperbaric Technician-Safety Officer is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems. This position is also responsible for pristine data entry of patient information and collaboration with clinical staff to support clinic needs. Performs all hyperbaric chamber maintenance. Participates in Hospital and community safety programs. Fosters a positive relationship between the department and local Fire Marshall, EMS Directors. Conducts quarterly hyperbaric fire safety drills for ongoing staff education of emergency response. Works closely with facility management personnel and department medical personnel. Responsible for maintaining all facility safety-related standards as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies. Maintains all safety and maintenance logs. Assists in patient education and preparation which relates to hyperbaric therapy. Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with infection control, hazard control and confined spaces. Provides leadership and education to clinical staff and physicians as it relates to hyperbaric therapy. Provides support to the Wound Care Clinic staff as needed. Keeps complete and accurate data entry of patient records maintaining confidentiality.Sets up procedures to assist Medical Director in reviewing and documenting safety-related events.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1.    Able to perform daily set-up, tasks and procedures as they relate to operations of HBO chambers and diagnostic equipment.

2.    Ability to case manage patients on a weekly basis in collaboration with RN and MD to provide updated information of HBO treatment progress.

3.    Assists with Identifying patients appropriate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, effectively collaborates with Physician and RN to expedite treatment.

4.    Maintains complete records of safety practices and protocols.

5.    Participates in Hospital Safety meetings and communicates pertinent information back to Clinical Coordinator.

6.    Educates staff on Safety policies with monthly policy updates and quarterly fire drills.

7.    Acts as a resource to Center staff as it relates to safety procedures, Hospital and Center wide.

8.    Completes data entry of patient care documentation, with attention to detail, in a timely manner.

9.    Effectively delegates appropriate patient care activities to co-workers with appropriate knowledge and skill level. Holds co-workers accountable for completing delegated tasks in a timely manner.

10.    Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served; seeks assistance from resources if other age groups need care.

Required Qualifications:
1.    High School diploma or GED required.
2.    License EMT Basic License required., or Registration Medical Assistant Certificate required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required., or Certified or licensed in one of the following: EMT, Paramedic, Certified Nursing Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, RN, LPN, Certified Hyperbaric Technician, Physical Therapist, respiratory Therapist
3.    1-3 years related work experience required in healthcare.
4.    Pre or post hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course. If pre-hire, the course completion must be within the past 5 years from date of hire.
5.    Pre or post hire completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course (from Undersee & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine).
6.    Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

4.    Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

5.    Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

6.    Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

7.    Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.

8.    Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:
1.    Work requires periods of close attention to work with out interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required.

2.    Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

3.    Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

o    Daily:  Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc), Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.

o    Several times a month:  Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals.

4.    Health Care Status:  HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.

Physical Requirements:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
This job requires constant Endurance-working up to 5-6 hours without a break,frequent sitting, walking, standing, Keyboard use, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance.There may be occasional bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 75 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.
