Shift: Per Diem

Essential Functions:

Professional Development

  • Actively participates in departmental staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains current licensure and certifications as per job description, and keeps current on assigned education and training tasks..

Patient Advocacy

  • Advocates for patients and families to ensure positive patient care outcomes.

Documentation

  • Documents in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Documents all changes as well as relevant information regarding patient’s response to intervention, therapeutic regimens, and patient progress as it relates to plan of care and patient’s response to teaching.

Patient Care

  • Ensures that patient’s pain is well controlled.
  • Responds to patient needs in a timely manner, including answering call lights.

Patient Communication

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families peers and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Includes patient, family, and care-givers in all aspects of care while ensuring that all explanations are understandable.

Assessment

  • Completes admission and on-going assessments based on patient needs within appropriate time frame.
  • Identifies patient’s individual needs, problems, issues, concerns and considers chronological and developmental levels.

Planning

  • Develops an individualized nursing plan of care based on initial and on-going data collection.
  • Ensures that the plan establishes realistic and attainable health goals with patient and family including educational and discharge needs.
  • Provides resources to assist patients and families with post-discharge needs.

Implementation

  • Demonstrates clinical competency and follows standards of care, policies and procedures.
  • Implements patient education and discharge teaching appropriately utilizing “teach back” process.
  • Interprets properly and implements physician’s orders.

Safety

  • Continually insures patient safety by compliance with, but not limited to, hospital policies and procedures, the Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals and Universal protocol.
  • Provides a safe, secure professional environment while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Clinical Specialty:

  • Maintains current ONS Chemotherapy provider card.
  • OCN certification after 1 year in oncology clinic required (requirements re: experience and hours worked set by ONS).
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in handling and administration of chemotherapeutic and biotherapeutic agents.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, triage and of the adult oncology population.
  • Clinical competence in the use and maintenance of various central line access devices (ex: VAD, PICC).
  • Participation in ongoing clinical education throughout the year to obtain and maintain knowledge surrounding therapeutics, treatment options and regimens.

Job Requirements:

Communication:

  • Must possess verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse group of professional and non-professional members of the health care team, patients and family/significant others.

Minimum Education

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

Required Licenses

  • [Massachusetts, United States] Registered Nurse
  • Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Maintains BLS. Maintain ONS chemotherapy provider card. OCN certification or must achieve OCN certification after 1 year of employment. (Experience and hours worked set by ONS)
