Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Observes and respects the personal privacy and confidentiality of information with regard to patients, physicians and co-workers.
  • Adheres to code of conduct at all times and addresses patients in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Supports new attendant staff by acting as role model and mentor.
  • Consistently complies with hospital policies and procedures for infection control and hazard communication standard including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Adheres to OR/PACU Dress Code
  • Reviews OR schedule/Case Board for case schedule in order to bring appropriate supplies and equipment outside the Operating Room in preparation for Room Turnover.
  • Sets up all OR specialty tables in preparation for each procedure.
  • Identifies and transports patients safely between inpatient units, DSU, operating rooms and PACU as needed
  • Assists in positioning and transfer of patients from stretcher and/or O.R. bed with full regard for patient privacy, patient safety and personal and staff safety.
  • Properly performs room turnover using established interim cleaning procedures.
  • Ensures stretcher/ inpatient bed/ oxygen is available outside operating room prior to conclusion of case
  • Cleans operating rooms, MSTA rooms, PACU cubicles, work areas and major equipment (including O.R. beds, stretchers, etc.)  between cases on a timely basis.
  • Handles all noninfectious and contaminated waste according to policy.
  • Manages waste management systems according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Manages oxygen and carbon dioxide tanks as instructed.
  • Stocks and/or assists with stocking all operating room(s) cabinets and warming cabinet..
  • Stocks O.R. linen cart.
  • Performs errand services to other hospital departments.
  • Places soiled linen (bed linen, staff scrubs) in proper bags and into proper receptacle.
  • Keeps coffee room clean and neat.  Empties trash throughout the day.
  • Cleans and defrosts refrigerator according to schedule.
  • Assists with returning equipment and carts to equipment room and maintaining neatness of that room.
  • Assists with delivering of stat specimens to the lab or pathology.
  • Retrieves blood or blood products from the blood bank.
  • Transports tissue specimens and blood products in a timely manner according to policy.
  • Enters requisitions for repair of broken equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to function during urgent and emergent situations.

Education/Experience Required:

  • HS Diploma
  • Ability to work in surgical services environment.
  • Ability to work at a quick pace with minimal supervision.

Registration/Certification:

  • AHA BLS Certification

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Constant concentration and problem solving.
