Job Description:

Responsibilities
Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, the Operations Pharmacy Manager is responsible for leading and managing comprehensive pharmacy services in key centralized areas of the pharmacy, as determined by hospital needs
The Operations Pharmacy Manager will serve as the hiring manager for the clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Other key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: staff development, team building, workflow optimization, compliance with all state and federal standards, and the development of pharmacy-related policies/procedures and guidelines which promote medication safety, appropriate use of medications, formulary compliance, cost-effective practice, and optimal patient outcomes
Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures
Collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy management team to develop and implement pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan
Provides leadership and direction to the Pharmacy Team/s; Manages staff resources to ensure staffing plans meets departmental and patient care needs
Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties
Serves as a pharmacy leader and active participant in hospital committees as needed
Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the pharmacy team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization
Develops and implements policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures and other related practice documents
Serves in a leadership role in the development and management of educational and training programs for the pharmacy staff, students and other health care professionals
Coordinates competency assessments, career ladder evaluations and other staff development programs
Fosters a team environment within the department and effective inter-disciplinary collaboration
Plans efficient and effective utilization of resources
Maintain expertise and up to date knowledge in appropriate specialty practice area, providing consultation with other health care professionals as appropriate
Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities
Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews
Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department

Qualifications
PharmD or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required
License Massachusetts Pharmacist required
3-5 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications
PGY-1 or Pharmacy Administrative Practice Residency preferred
Board Certification in Related Practice preferred
Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives
Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area
Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues
Oral Communications: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas
Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows
Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner
