Job Summary: The Manager of ambulatory clinical pharmacy is responsible for managing all aspects of pharmacy operations and promoting quality pharmaceutical care within ambulatory care areas. The manager will lead, support, and manage all ambulatory care specialists and functions in the development of enhanced ambulatory pharmacy services. They will be focused on the development of an overall ambulatory strategic plan that is designed to effectively manage and continuously improve the organizations medication management system. This will be accomplished by developing a structure to effectively communicate, collaborate, and engage a team of peers and physicians in the ambulatory pharmacy strategy; ensure that measurement of the medication management system aligns with metrics focused on quality, safety, cost, and utilization; execute on a quality improvement plan that ensure the best outcomes through performance-improvement activities.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:- Works collaboratively with department physicians, specialists, and leadership to develop programs that improve patient outcomes through appropriate medication management.
- Assumes direct supervision of ambulatory and specialty pharmacy services in accordance with the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and technicians and the practice of pharmacy by the appropriate state and federal agencies.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and quality assessment of pharmacy systems, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in the implementation of departmental short and long term goals, and participates in accomplishing agreed-upon goals.
- Participates as a member of various quality management committees to provide quality management oversight to the pharmacy operations and client satisfaction.
- Serves as the Hiring Manager for pharmacists and technicians and coordinates and maintains scheduling, payroll, training, ongoing competency monitoring, and the development and evaluation of pharmacy personnel. Ensures appropriate coverage for assigned areas and shifts.
- Demonstrates leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, and problem solving.
- Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
- Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: 1-5
- Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
- Doctoral degree in Pharmacy required.
- License Massachusetts Pharmacist required., or immediate eligibility.
- 3-5 years related work experience required and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
- Understanding of insurance and adjudication processes. Robust understanding of prior authorizations through pharmacy and medical benefits.
- Robust understanding of 340B and its implications in all ambulatory pharmacy operations.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
- Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or MHA) and/or training (PGY-1 and PGY-2 Residency Training) with emphasis on Ambulatory Care/Transitions of Care. Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills both within the department and in contacts with health care professionals outside the department.
- Additional certifications (BCACP, BCPS, CSP, or equivalent) and/or completion of an MTM certificate program are preferred. Previous experience in building ambulatory pharmacy programs. Knowledge of med to bed, medication renewal center, and data analytics.
- Knowledge of complex/chronic diseases states and therapies used within specialty pharmacy such as but not limited to: Primary Care, Oncology, Transplant, Infectious Disease, Neurology (including Multiple Sclerosis), Rheumatology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Allergy and/or various inflammatory conditions preferred.
- Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area.
- Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.
- Independence of Action: Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.
- Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
