Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by serving the dual role of directing the daily operations of the patient transporter services and regularly functioning as a transporter which supports our clinical teams in transporting our patients to various departments during their stay and upon discharge. This lead support position will have an impact on safety, patient throughput and patient satisfaction by orchestrating efficient transporting services and carefully transporting patients with empathy, respect and reassurance.

Qualifications

Education Required:  High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience Preferred:   At least 2 years of patient care or patient transporting experience. 

Certifications

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:Basic Life Support

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees shift operations, assigning functions to optimize efficiency, ensuring staff are operating within their job expectations.   
  • Works collaboratively with the director, manager and/or the volunteer coordinators in the planning and implementing of operations and performance improvement initiatives for the areas of responsibility and the department as a whole.  Coordinates with the volunteer coordinators/manager when necessary to provide other transporting services. 
  • In the absence of the director/manager the Lead will assume the supervisory role and make decisions that will impact patient care and departmental operations to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the assigned area and fosters a climate of safety and professional excellence.
  • Troubleshoots operational issues and customer service calls and complaints.  Follows the proper chain of command to resolve concerns, addressing the short term issue and recommending and/or working towards long-term resolution and improvements with the Volunteers leadership team.
  • Provides performance feedback on staff directly to the staff member thus fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement and to the director/manager as appropriate.  Addresses patient and staff safety concerns promptly. Gives input into the performance evaluation process.
  • Precepts and mentors staff so to expand their knowledge and competence in transporting and customer service. 
  • Builds and maintains a staffing plan in the scheduling system that is fair, efficient and fiscally prudent.
