Job Summary

The Registered Nurse practices within the framework of the nursing process and provides direct nursing care to patients and their families. This role includes assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams, and promoting patient safety and advocacy across the continuum of care.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and make sound nursing judgments based on assessment, clinical knowledge, and experience.
  • Systematically assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Coordinate patient care and direct assistive personnel to ensure safe, effective, efficient, and patient‑centered care.
  • Collaborate collegially with physicians and other healthcare professionals to identify and meet patient and family needs.
  • Build and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with patients and families; act as a patient advocate.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Maintain required annual competencies, including emergency skills and unit-based education.
  • Identify opportunities for professional growth and participate in ongoing education and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate accountability for nursing practice, patient safety, and alignment with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center goals and values.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred

Experience

  • 1–3 years of related nursing experience required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)

Age-Based Care Competency

Must be competent to provide care to:

  • Neonatal: Birth – 6 months
  • Young Adult: 16–30 years
  • Adult/Middle Age: 30–60 years
  • Elderly: 60+ years

Work Environment & Conditions

  • Requires sustained focus with minimal interruption for extended periods
  • Fast‑paced setting with frequent changes and evolving patient needs
  • Regular exposure to healthcare environments and infectious agents
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
  • Health Care Worker Status: HCW1 (regular, hands‑on patient contact)

Physical & Sensory Requirements

  • Medium physical work: lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20 lbs frequently
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching
  • Ability to reposition patients (with or without assistance)
  • Use of fine motor skills, monitoring equipment, and computers
  • Exposure to visual, auditory, and environmental stimuli common in healthcare settings

 

 

Pay Range:

$38.00 – $98.19

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
