This role will be supporting our Endoscopy unit at Beth Israel Milton Hospital and will provide administrative support to the department staff and patients. This includes supporting all duties at the front desk and assisting with efficiency and flow of the department, with guidance from the charge RN and/or designee.

Please note, this role is 20 hours per week with a rotating schedule. There will be a schedule, 2 days one week and 3 days the next. Due to this, flexible availability is required.

Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, OR/PACU, or designee, performs a variety of select administrative and nursing support activities.

  • Answer phones in compliance with hospital policies and procedures

  • Communicates effectively with patients and their families where appropriate

  • Assembles patient medical records

  • Updates patient information in hospital computer system

  • Enter billing charges for patients in computer system

  • Retrieves appropriate patient medical records and tests results

  • Sends specimens to the Laboratory, order entry in hospital computer system as needed

  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direction or licensed personnel

  • May participate in the delivery of emergency care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician

  • Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients. Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency

  • Collaborates, cooperates, and communicates with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care

  • Provides care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served; seeks assistance for resources of other age groups that need care

  • Maintains a safe work environment within service area and actively participates in hospital safety programs and initiatives

  • Adheres to universal precautions

  • Actively participates in unit-based Q.I., Performance Improvement studies and unit meetings

  • Attends and/or participates in in-house or outside training programs to improve and augment skills and knowledge

  • Shall assist in the ordering and maintain adequate levels of supplies as assigned by the Director, Surgical Services, or designee

  • Communicates arrival times for all the surgical patients via preop phone calls 

  • Process patients and patients' representatives upon arrival to the unit

  • Assist with transport of patients leaving the area when necessary

  • Inputs data worksheets

  • May arrange ambulance transport for patients

  • Works effectively with physicians who utilize the unit

  • Communicates effectively with the physicians' office staff when necessary

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department or supervisor.

The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to the completion of high school, plus 3 to 12 months related experience

  • Excellent communication skills needed

  • Ability to type

  • Ability to work in a busy environment

  • Medical terminology preferred

  • Experience with microsoft 365 and epic systems preferred.

Pay Range:

$19.50 – $26.24

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
