MON – THURSDAY 7AM to 530PM

The Sonographer Clinical Practitioner serves as an advanced clinical resource whose primary responsibility is providing accurate and timely preliminary ultrasound reports for radiologist review. The role supports efficient departmental workflow, communicates significant and urgent findings to radiologists and referring providers, and collaborates with the medical team to ensure high-quality patient care and timely interpretation of examinations.
Additional responsibilities include monitoring preliminary reporting workflows, assisting with complex clinical cases, supporting staff education and professional development, conducting competency assessments, participating in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, standardizing imaging protocols, and supporting departmental accreditation and regulatory compliance. The Clinical Sonographer Practitioner also assists with onboarding and training new sonographers, identifying opportunities for workflow improvements, maintaining documentation standards, and ensuring adherence to established clinical policies and procedures.
The Sonographer Clinical Practitioner maintains advanced clinical competency and may perform sonographic examinations in specialized circumstances, including research studies, contrast-enhanced ultrasound procedures, and the implementation, evaluation, and staff training of newly introduced examinations, protocols, equipment, or advanced imaging techniques.
Reporting Structure: The Clinical Sonographer Practitioner reports directly to the Clinical Manager and Technical Director and works collaboratively with radiologists, departmental leadership, and sonography staff to support clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and departmental objectives.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in planning, scheduling assignments, and coordinates the daily work of staff sonographers, students and aides.
  2. Participates in the development of new tests by performing comparison studies and clinical trials.
  3. Assists in developing quality control procedures and instructs sonographeres on technical aspects of their routine use.
  4. Assists in clinical teaching of both staff and student sonographers. Provides assistance in the process of evaluating student and staff sonographers.
  5. Troubleshoots in the event of a technical or mechanical problem. Contacts appropriate service engineers/vendors for equipment failure.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Registration Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
  3. 5-8 years related work experience required.
  4. In addition to the duties of the staff sonographer, the senior sonographer is proficient in varied Ultrasound exams including Doppler and Color Doppler Ultrasound.
  5. New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  1. Nuchal translucency certification

  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies:
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 – 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

 

 

Pay Range:

$52.92 – $78.64

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
